Medical Fund for Children-MFC
The Clinical Officer will be the In-charge of clinical care to particularly paediatric clients in the 13 mobile site clinics for the organisation (for now). The incumbent will act as Clinic Team Leader and work with responsible staff to ensure all reports needed from the sites are processed and shared with the Administrative Manager in a timely manner. In this regard, the Clinical Officer will undertake to mentor other clinical service providers especially the final year medical students from the UK, Australia and the USA. Additionally such mentorship will be extended to visiting staff on short placements as well as oversee ART, PMTCT and preventive services of the program at facility level.
Preference is given to those willing to relocate to Nkhotakota, the operating base.
The Clinical Officer will specifically:
- Examine, diagnose and treat particularly infants including those diagnosed with HIV and related conditions of infants
- Work and collaborate with government staff to ensure all supplies required for the smooth running of the clinic are available at all times.
- Act as clinical Team Leader at site level to build and sustain an effective working relationship with government clinic staff
- Determine need for patient examination and laboratory investigations and be able to interpret findings.
- Ensure the provision of quality, evidence based ART, PMTCT and preventive services to the organisation
- Provide technical support to the treatment and care program through a well- established process of patient linkages and service integration
- Provide patient education, both one-to-one in clinic and by facilitating group sessions
- Assist in maintaining and updating accurate and detailed patient records
- Promote implementation of standard operating procedures for all activities relating to good clinical practice.
- Oversee mentoring clinic teams and implement a continuous quality assurance and improvement program at site level
- Ensure compliance and productivity standards by coordinating patient scheduling
- Refer patients to medical specialists or other practitioners for specialised treatment
- Attend clinic case conferences to discuss complicated cases or those for further attention by the organisation
- Degree and/or Certificate in Clinical Medicine with a minimum of five years
- Must be trained in paediatrics and HIV Management
- Knowledge of clinical protocols and procedures in the management of HIV related diseases in infants
- Demonstrated leadership and mentorship skills
- Registered with Medical Council of Malaŵi
- Must have a sound knowledge in the basic medical disciplines to allow for accurate diagnosis and appropriate management of clinical problems
